Glucose Control in Neurocritical Patients
Park Tae-Hwan

Abstract
Previous observational data have shown a linear relationship between blood glucose levels and adverse clinical outcomes in various neurocritical patients. In initial studies, intensive insulin therapy (IIT) had been recommended to improve patient outcome despite its association with an increased risk of hypoglycemia. However, recent large clinical trial showed that IIT increased 90-day mortality compared with conventional treatment in critically ill patients. Therefore, the benefits and harms of IIT to control glucose strictly in critically ill patients remain uncertain. We tried to review and summarize the studies for glucose control and its impact on clinical outcomes in critically ill patients including neurocritical illness.
